Insecurity Breeds Comparison
Have you ever walked in a room, looked around and thought to yourself, I don’t belong here or I don’t fit in?
I have been there, done that.
It can be comparison of economic status, intellectual status, but I believe most of the time the comparison we do as women is body image.
It was told to me a long time ago that women really dress for other women. I think I believe that!
I have VERY rarely heard a man look at his wife’s outfit and be like “that’s so cute on you”. Now I will say, that my husband is very good at complimenting me and my style of clothing. I am very appreciative of that, but most men don’t look too much at the outfit as much as they look at how the outfit fits her body,
Okay, before we go down a rabbit hole of men are horrible and checking out other women. Just STOP! Remember men are visual and most men are men of honor and will recognize a women that will take care of herself and her beauty, nothing wrong with that. I digress but I feel like that was necessary.
How we feel and see ourselves will manifest in several ways, one in particular will be comparison. She’s prettier, she’s thinner, she’s stronger, she’s smarter, she’s richer and so on and so forth, which equals that you and I are not enough.
Let me ask this, when has God ever said to us that we are not enough? Does someone pay the highest price for something that doesn’t have any value to them? Because God paid the highest price for us (John 3:16-17). So that means it is very important for us to recognize our value and identity, as well as others value and identity. Then we can honestly cheer one another on and use our gifts and talents to support ourselves and others right where they are at.
We teach people how to treat us! Many years ago, there was a woman in my church that was one I could have easily compared myself to. She was very financially secure, tiny and petite, and I was not. I actually was probably at one of my heaviest times in my life. One day she stopped me and in so many words said, “what’s up with you?” I honestly didn’t know what she meant. She was like, you walk around with so much confidence. I was definitely caught of guard. I told her that I was just being me, and really didn’t understand what she meant. Little did I know that she was comparing herself to me. In her eyes she seen herself better than I and didn’t understand the confidence and respect I had for myself and what others had for me. This was very eye opening to me. I didn’t even know she had been scoping me out. Because God was living inside me and I knew it, I could carry His confidence in who I was/am, a Daughter of the most High God! Her and I went our separate ways in life but it did leave an impact. You never know who might be scoping you out? Carry your head high because you also are created in the image of God!
“You wouldn’t worry so much about what other’s think of you if you realized how seldom they do.” Eleanor Roosevelt
Have you ever looked in the mirror and said “I love you” to yourself? I have and it’s terrifying at first but then it becomes fun and I usually give myself a wink and a smile.
“The greatest part of who you are is just beyond your fear.” Jamie Winship
Yes we might carrying a little extra weight, or maybe we are not the smartest in the room, maybe our body shape is not what we perceive to be perfect, but can we start to see ourselves through God’s eyes? He says we are his masterpiece, his poetry. He says, that we are so beautiful to him that he actually needs to turn his head away because it too much for him. (Song of Solomon.) If you read through the book of the Song of Solomon it might just make you blush a little because of the way He see’s you and adores you. It’s actually become on of my favorite books in the Bible.
I say all this to say, YOU ARE INCREDIBLE, YOU ARE ONE OF A KIND, YOU MATTER!
It’s time to start telling yourself this as well!
Love and Blessings,
Just ME
